Throughout the year, Irvine, California’s Tanaka Farms offers up some family-friendly things to do in Orange County. Everything from strawberry picking in the summer to pumpkin picking in the fall, Tanaka Farms utilizes their 30-acre farm and turns it into a fun, hands-on outing for both kids and adults.
For the 2020 holiday season comes a brand new festive event on the farm! Only a few miles away from where you can purchase used cars near Tustin Toyota, you will be fully immersed in a plethora of twinkling lights. Beginning Monday November 27, 2020, Tanaka Farms takes the meaning of hikari literally. Hikari, in Japanese, means shine.
The Coronavirus pandemic has required many event organizers to reconfigure their offerings to abide by strict social distancing guidelines. For their pumpkin farm this past October, Tanaka Farms introduced a drive-thru experience that ended up being an overwhelming success. Given that we are still living in a time with the same guidelines, hikari will be yet another drive-thru experience to enjoy.
You and your family will tour the 30-acre farm from the comfort of your vehicle. While on this route, you will be surrounded by over a mile of shimmering Christmas lights that are hand-picked, carefully placed, and matched to color. Don’t be afraid to play your favorite holiday jams on your car radio, in fact, we recommend it! Not sure what songs to play? Don’t worry, by this time KOST 103.5FM will already be fleshed-out in numerous holiday playlists to keep you in the holiday spirit.
As you drive through the route, you will see displays of farm-themed lighting draped on trees, scarecrows, and tractors. Tanaka Farms has a field of sugar canes that you will be able to pass through, and even those will be twinkling in lights too! Everything on the farm is getting the holiday treatment this year, and it’s going to be a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed.
For a little more festive fun, your little tykes can get a special visit from Santa Clause every Friday – Sunday as well.
If you get to Tanaka Farms a little earlier in the day, you can visit their Drive-Thru produce stand that is open daily between 9 AM – 6 PM. At the stand, you will find produce grown straight from the farm fields, jams made with berries from the farm, peanuts, salsa with chips, and even fruit and vegetable incorporated loaves of bread! And yes, you will be able to shop the whole catalog without leaving your vehicle.
Hikari will run every night from Monday, November 27, 2020 – Sunday, January 10, 2021, excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Eve between the hours of 5:30 pm to 9 pm. Reservations to the farm must be made online and in advance, so if you’re interested be sure to buy your reservation time early! The event is priced per vehicle with a maximum of 8 people per car. Regardless, the number of passengers in the vehicle should not exceed the number of seat belts. There is also a height clearance of 9 ½ feet for taller vehicles.
Mondays – Fridays tickets are $49 and Saturday – Sunday tickets are $59. The first car enters at 5:30 pm and the last car enters at 9 pm.
Reserve your time slot soon, and add Tanaka Farm’s Hikari to your list of things to do in Orange County this holiday season!

If you’re looking for things to do in Orange County or remotely anywhere, here is a virtual adventure game that you can enjoy with friends on any given day. Puzzling
Adventures is a cross between a scavenger hunt, adventure contest, and self-guided tour. Each adventure will consist of a series of locations that you are guided to go to where you will be asked questions or solve a puzzle to receive the next instruction and move on. In order to successfully participate, all you need to have is your own mobile device and internet connection.
The game welcomes all ages to play and encourages families and friends to participate in groups, couples, or individually to complete their adventure. Because the game is self-guided, you are able to play on any day with no reservations required. You’ll want to complete the experience as quickly as possible if you are playing to win. However, if you’re just playing for fun, you can choose to go at whatever pace feels right to you. The goal of this experience is to have fun as well as enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of the various locations you’ll visit.
All of the adventures are crafted to be entertaining and informative, and almost all are designed to accommodate for wheelchairs and strollers.
Pricing:
Pricing is per team, not per person, and ranges between 50 to 100 dollars. Groups can be any size but are recommended to be teams of two, three, or four because they work the best.
Common Questions:
Q: What time can I start my adventure?
A: Since the game is virtual, you can start at any time of your choosing. However, it’s recommended that you go out during the daylight hours.
Q: What are the transportation and parking options for participating in the event?
A: Every adventure will have a starting location that will often be in a parking lot or parking garage. This parking is recommended but not required. To start the game, though, you will have to be in the indicated starting zone.
Q: What’s the refund policy?
A: All refunds will be accepted as long as the adventure has not been started.
Q: Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
A: No! You will only need to have a mobile device with an internet connection. All registration will have been completed on the website, so you won’t have to check-in before starting the game.
Q: What different types of adventures are offered?
A: The standard puzzle adventures can be enjoyed over a few hours and are equipped to entertain all ages. Some epic puzzle adventures are offered, but they involve more distance and more tricky questions, so it’s designed for adults. Drinking adventures are for those who are 21 and older. They are identical to the standard walking adventures, but you will enter breweries, bars, or wineries. Lastly, the haunted adventures are similar to all the others, but the content is horror-themed.
The Covid-19 crisis has forced many businesses into adapting new ideas and generating new ways of entertainment. This game will allow you to have things to do in Orange County and almost all throughout the United States. For more information, visit https://puzzlingadventures.com/.

If you are looking for Orange County events this November, consider joining a free meditation class. With everything that has been going on in 2020, and all the stress that has come along with the coronavirus pandemic, taking some time for yourself to relax and meditate might not be a bad idea. Most of us can agree that life has been difficult this year with all of the changes we have had to adapt to. Taking a meditation class will allow you to be relaxed in the present moment and let go of anything stressing you out.
Every Thursday at 6:00 PM, the Irvine Meditation Center hosts a free meditation class for anyone who is interested. November, the month of giving thanks, is the perfect time to take a few meditation classes to not only destress but to express gratitude for what we do have, and for the good that has happened this year. Even though this year has been tough, there is still lots of good going on in the world, and we have a lot to be grateful for.
Meditation is a mind-body exercise that has a long tradition in Hinduism. While originally tied to religious and spiritual values, many cultures have utilized mediation practices for self-care. Since the goal of mediation is to eliminate the “noise” of the world and generate inner peace and focus, many people find that meditation helps ground them back to reality. More recently, Western medical professionals have begun to recognize meditation as a natural way to ease anxiety symptoms, much like exercise.
The Irvine Meditation Center holds 20 years of experience, and they are willing to share their knowledge for free for anyone who wishes to find happiness and peace in their life. These classes are also open for anyone who simply wants to feel calm, relaxed, or even sleep better at night. Plus, Orange County events like this one are the perfect opportunity to meet other Irvine locals who are trying to better themselves in the same way as you.
The class will start by providing you with a short lecture relaying important information about how they do meditation. Then, you will close your eyes and follow the verbal instructions to the guided meditation.
The free meditation classes are every Thursday and start at 6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. The following are the official details of each class and what is included:
The event consists of a Group Mediation Session.
This event occurs every Thursday at 6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.
This event begins with a 15 Minute Introductory Lecture.
This event includes 40 Minutes of Guided Meditation.
For this event, there is no reservation necessary, just show up!
